Medical Discount Plan (MDP) - Initial

There are no licensing requirements for Producers or other persons to sell Medical Discount Plans (MDPs). However, the Producer should first check and be sure that the MDP is licensed in Connecticut (he or she can check our website).  The Producer should only use marketing materials, etc that have developed by the licensed MDP, consistent with Connecticut statutes and filed with the Department as part of the MDP's license or renewal.

Currently, as indicated above, the Producer can only sell for licensed MDPs.  Effective October 1st, a new law goes into effect, whereby licensed MDPs can also use entities called "marketers" to sell MDP cards.  A marketer is an entity that re-brands the MDP card under its own name.  MDPs may file with the Department for October 1st and thereafter, giving names of marketers which are authorized to act for the MDP.  Therefore, from October 1st on , there might be some marketers for which the Producer may also sell.  These marketers will be added to our website.  Again, the Producer should only sell for an entity which is listed on our website as a licensed MDP, or after October 1st, as an authorized marketer for a licensed MDP.
