Department of Banking Now Licenses Debt Negotiators

| During the 2009 legislative session, a new law was passed requiring the Department of Banking to license and regulate the practice of debt negotiation. Debt negotiation is the practice of assisting a person in helping to reduce, manage or settle their mortgage or debt owed to creditors. Companies that provide the services specified in the new law are required to be licensed as of October 1, 2009. There are certain exceptions - attorneys practicing law in Connecticut, banks and credit unions. |
